Founder and CEO

Anil is the CEO of Cedar Porch Capital, which raises capital from large institutional investors for single-family home construction with top US homebuilders and land developers. Capital is in the form of preferred equity, mezzanine debt, common equity and senior debt capital for the acquisition of lots and construction of single family homes (for rent and for sale).

Anil was most recently Chief Financial Officer at Homebound, a technology-enabled homebuilder backed by Khosla Ventures, Fifth Wall, Thrive Capital, Google, and Forerunner Ventures. At Homebound, Anil led the raise of hundreds of millions of dollars of real estate capital from Goldman Sachs and 2 other institutional investors to acquire lots and build homes for customers.

Anil was previously Managing Director at HPS Investment Partners (Highbridge), a global

investment firm with $70 billion of assets under management primarily across private and public credit. Founding member of Value Enhancement Team which focuses on equity investments in the private credit portfolio, typically control equity positions created through the restructuring of debt investments. Hands-on role with a select group of high-impact companies, including work on replacing or upgrading management teams and boards of directors, strategy analysis, margin improvement, capital raising, liquidity management, and exit strategies. Companies were across several industries, and they were typically in a phase of significant disruption/transition given in- or out-of-court restructuring processes.

Prior to HPS, Anil was a Partner and member of the Investment Committee at Reservoir Capital Group (a private equity firm backed by the Ziff Family and Richard Rainwater), where he worked for 11 years. Prior to Reservoir, Anil was in the Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs.

Anil received an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2009 and a BS in

Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2003.

I see a big opportunity to bring homebuilders and land developers capital from large institutional investors. These investors say residential real estate is among the highest conviction themes for them at investment committee (meaning they are really focused on it!). Interestingly for as large of an industry as this is, there are reasons why the two sides don’t know each other as well as they will in the next few years.

I saw this opportunity after 16 years working for NY-based private equity firms. I sat in many investment committees at Goldman Sachs, Reservoir Capital, and HPS Investment Partners. I invested in deals in many industries and across the capital structure ranging from different types of debt to equity. I have a lot of large institutional investor relationships, understand how these investors think about deals, and also helped raise a lot of capital for my companies.

Then 3 years ago, I jumped into being a CFO at a technology-enabled homebuilder. Homebound is led by an amazing CEO Nikki Pechet and a strong team and investors disrupting the single family residential construction industry. My biggest task was to raise real estate capital which we did successfully (many hundreds of millions of dollars from multiple institutional investors). I’ve raised exactly the type of capital I am proposing at Cedar Porch for a mid-size homebuilder.
